Top Three Strong Trios in Norse Mythology

Both Norse mythology and Viking Age make me come to the belief that: if you pillage, do it with your gang. Norse mythology proves this was true. In Norse mythology, there were many powerful gangs. This blog post is to mention three strong trios that dominated nearly the whole cosmos: Odin and his brothers, Fenrir and his siblings, and the Norns.

Odin, Vili, and Ve

Norse mythology undoubtedly revolved around Norse gods, especially Odin the Allfather. That's why the more we know about Odin the Allfather, the less we know about Vili and Ve.

The three brothers were the sons of Borr and Bestla. The trio helped to create the world of humanity. In the story of creation, Odin, Villi, and Ve planned to kill Ymir the very first giant in Norse mythology.

Odin Vili and Ve killed Ymir the ancient giant to fashion the world by their own will

Odin, Villi, and Ve killed the ancient giant, Ymir and used his corpse to make the world.

And the brothers managed to kill the first and also the ancient giant of the cosmos - Ymir. They used the dead corpse of Ymir to fashion the world. And there we have Midgard or Planet Earth.

Odin, Vili, and Ve also created the first two humans from two logs. For what Odin, Vili, and Ve had done to the cosmos, they deserve the title of the strong trio.

Fenrir, Jormungand, and Hel

Fenrir, Jormungand, and Hel were the children of Loki the Trickster in Norse mythology. Guess we don't need to introduce more about Loki. He had three children with Angrboda the giantess. But the prophecy about what Loki's children could give the world separate Loki's family.

Fenrir was kept in Asgard and raised up by the gods. Jormungandr the serpent was banished into the ocean. And Hel was exiled into the underworld - the land of dead. But in each place, the Loki's children grew up to the great power that everyone had to fear them.

Jormungand the Midgard Serpent who grew up to the size that he could encircle Midgard with his body.

Fenrir grew up at an incredible speed that everyone feared him. Jormungand grew up as an enormous serpent that could encircle the whole cosmos with his body. Hel in the underworld grew up her power and became the Queen of the Dead.

The three children of Loki were also the major leaders of the giant army in the battle of Ragnarok to dethrone the gods.

The Norns

The most powerful trios in Norse mythology must be the Norns. All creatures in the cosmos could not influence this trio even a little bit. Even Odin the Allfather could not persuade them to act as the way Odin wanted.

The Norns were named Urd "Past", Verdandi "Present", and Skuld "Future". Norse mythology had it that the three Norns created the fates of all beings in the cosmos. They were the only, before Odin, who knew runes the magical runes.

Although the norns didn't appear much in the whole Norse mythology, anyone who read Norse mythology knows how powerful they were. That's not to mention the Norns were the ones who kept Yggdrasil tree alive by watering the Great Tree every day. The Tree Yggdrasil held the Nine Worlds within its branches.
